Acts of Love is a non-profit organization founded in Calgary, Alberta in 2013. Born from a lifetime of loving and teaching, and an understanding of the importance of care and education in the lives of marginalized children and their families, Acts of Love continues the work that founder Munira Nagji has been doing throughout her life.

Acts of Love actively supports access to basic resources and education for marginalized families and children. We strive to alleviate poverty and break down class to enable children, families and communities to flourish and succeed.

(1) Eliminate poverty and marginalization through education

Access to education empowers children and their families, which empowers the communities they exist in to build safer and brighter futures.

Since 2010, Acts of Love has opened and is sustaining eight early childhood education centres in India:

  • Two in Tamil Nadu (Vadakudi, Thenkarai)

  • Two in Maharashtra (Pune x 2)

  • Four in Gujarat (Jivapar x 2, Gaduka, Beraja)

(2) Provide holistic care through medical, food and financial support

Acts of Love sponsors monthly groceries and medical visits for six families in Jivapar living in poverty. We also work with three elderly widows in Jivapar to supply groceries, home repairs, and micro financing funds.

In the city of Calgary, Canada, Acts of Love gathers private donations and applies 100% of these donations to academic support for young learners from low-income families that require extra tuition outside of school.

(3) Empower women through development and employment opportunities

Promoting the well-being and development of women is a priority for Acts of Love. We are employing women from local communities to be our teachers, administer programs and be role models for our students. They are lifting us up, and they are lifting up our communities.

Acts of Love is proud to see these women build confidence and earn income that will help bring them and their families out of poverty. The strength and expertise of these women helps build a positive and diverse learning environment in our centres, to the benefit of all our students.
